In this Good Dog class Nando Brown, Jo-Rosie Haffenden and Dean Nicholas will show you how to teach your dog how to be the best boy or girl your family could wish for including:

•  Sitting and staying when asked
• Settling and chilling when asked
• Coming back even when there are squirrels (in NZ think rabbits!)
• Walking with the you on the end of a loose lead and not your dog pulling you along
• Being the best and fastest dog at fetch in the park
• Leaving stuff when you say, even when it’s the tastiest snack in the hands of a human puppy
• Listening to your every word (English as a second language!)
• Doing simple tricks to prove to your neighbours and friends they really are the best boy or girl in town

The success or failure of training is entirely dependant on the effort you put in. Each week the 6-week course will have 5 exercises for you and your dog to practice in 5-minute daily sessions. Commit to train a little every day, try to have everyone in the household involved in training your dog doing so in the same way, and reap the results. The work put in now will pay off over a long and happy life with your furry friend.

Along with this detailed online training course you get support from us in a private Facebook group where you can ask questions and get additional material. In person group sessions will also be offered in Warkworth where you will be able to practise some of the techniques around other dogs and people.

Who are we...

This beginner dog training course is being offered on behalf of the Warkworth and Districts Dog Training Club. The club has offered beginner dog training to the community for over 20 years with volunteer instructors. Based out of the Warkworth A & P Showgrounds, we have also offered training in Agility as well as, more recently, Nosework, Tracking and Canine Fitness. With the Covid-19 restrictions we are unable to train together at the Showgrounds yet this self-isolation time is an ideal time to train - hence this option of online training with your young dog. We, Gary and Kimball (current volunteer instructors), will support the course material with an interactive Facebook group and some in-person group meetings once restrictions are lifted enough to allow for this.
